THE VENTURA FILM SOCIETY
SEASON 7 " One Cut, One Life " WED. AUGUST 19th @ 6:00pm MUSEUM OF VENTURA COUNTY 100 E. Main Street
USA 2015 – LUCIA SMALL & ED PINCUS – 105 mins
WED. AUGUST 19th @ 7:15pm
MUSEUM OF VENTURA COUNTY
100 E. Main Street
FILM SCREENS @ 7:15pm When seminal documentarian Ed Pincus, considered the father of first person non-fiction film, is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he and collaborator Lucia Small team up to make one last film, much to the chagrin of Jane, Ed’s wife of 50 years. Told from two filmmakers’ points of view, ONE CUT, ONE LIFE challenges the form of first person documentary. Ed and Lucia’s unique approach to filming offers a vulnerability and intimacy rarely seen in non- fiction, questioning whether some things might be too private to be made public. The film is an intense, raw, and sometimes humorous exploration of the human condition which invites the viewer to contemplate for themselves what is important, not only at the end of life, but also during.
" Ravishingly beautiful… Pulses with an almost ecstatic vitality. "
The New York Times
" Brilliant. Brave. Moving. A must-see. "
" A vital and probing work of personal filmmaking. "
Thanks to everyone who attended the VFS’s Season 7 opener on February 27th. Great to see so many people who've been with us from the start in 2008, including Denise Sindelar from the City of Ventura's Community Partnerships, Bell Arts Factory's Jim Rice, major supporters Patti Channer & Mary & Bill Karrh, Bob & Paula Chianese, and founding members Friday Lubina and Aricia Lee. Also good to see Jeanie Flowers, Kathleen Morris, Kevin Clerici of Downtown Ventura Partners, Camille Harris, and longtime film sponsors Helen Yunker, Gene & Cynthia Loughman, and Chris & Suzy Reinhart.
Our volunteers, many with us from day one, were great as always. Thanks a lot to Patti Ridenour, Geovany Jones, Steve Aguilar, Jerry Horstmeyer, Larry Schloff, Betty Ann Anear, and our new volunteers Kathy Thomas and Deby Tygell. We also appreciate Shanon Rice & Robert Bermudez of the Museum of Ventura County for hosting another of the VFS's opening nights. We'll be back there in June for a series of summer films.
I really appreciate everyone who's come to any of the nearly 400 films we've shown these past 7 years. We're looking forward to making 2015 another memorable one for cinema in Ventura.
So please join us on Thurs. March 26th for "MR. TURNER" at the Century 10 Downtown.
